Visual perception and understanding is important for computer vision and pattern recognition. Generally speaking, how to develop advanced techniques for effectively and efficiently precepting and understanding visual data is always urgent but also challenging. The new advanced development of this field will help visual representation, recognition, reconstruction, and content understanding of the research of computer vision, which have wide applications in unmanned driving, medical diagnosis assistance, and virtual reality. The primary objective of this special session fosters focused attention on the latest research progress in the area of visual perception and understandingand and seeks original contribution of works which addresses the challenges from data acquisition, representation, recognition, semantic analysis and applications in various applications, such as unmanned driving and medical field.

This special session aims to bring together the recent developments in the theory and application of Visual Perception and Understanding. The topics include, but are not limited to:

1) Novel architectures and algorithms for Visual Perception and Understanding

2) Advances in deep reinforcement learning theory

3) Transformer-based neural network architecture

4) Image and video processing, natural language processing

5) Special applications of visual perception and understanding on women and children groups

6) Special applications under the epidemic situation

This special session will be held in 2021 Chinese Conference on Pattern Recognition and Computer Vision (PRCV 2021). All papers should be prepared according to the PRCV2021 policy and should be submitted electronically using the conference website (https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/PRCV2021).

To submit your paper to this special session, you will use the PRCV2021 upload link and choose our SPECIAL SESSION "S1. New Advance in Visual Perception and Understanding" in the research topic list. We specially invite female researchers in this area to submit their recent research work to our session. The submission include at least one female author is eligible for the selection of “Best Female Scientific Paper” for this session, the selection will be made by CISG BVD and Women in CISG jointly.

All papers accepted for this session will be included in the conference proceedings published by Springer and expected to be indexed by EI/ISTP , also could be recommended to 《International Journal of Automation and Computing》(http://www.ijac.net/).
